What is API Banking?

It’s a platform of financial APIs offered by Hellenic Bank. Companies or developers interested in using the APIs can register and test them in a sandbox environment. The APIs' openness and modularity allow customers to experiment and innovate. The standards allow them to connect their systems very quickly. Openness to 3rd party solutions (e.g. FinTechs) enables platforms for partnerships and integrated value chains.

How can I join and use the APIs?

It’s a simple registration process. Just click on the “Get started now” button and fill in the information, in order for us to receive your request. After that just follow the information we will send you in the confirmation email.

Is there any cost to use the APIs?

There is no cost associated with accessing and using the APIs in the sandbox environment. Certain transactions however may have charges in the live environment.

What happens after the registration process?

Once registered, a confirmation will be sent to your registered email address. Once confirmed you will be redirected to the Sandbox environment. There, we will provide you with virtual credentials so that you can test your app with our APIs. In here you will be able to experience everything the platform offers for free, from account balances to payments. You will be able to reinitialize the process and even see your calls to our APIs.

Where can I find additional information on how to use the APIs?

Have a look at the description of each API under API Docs, the Getting started guide but also the more technical troubleshooting guide if you run into any trouble. All you have to do, is register and start testing using our sandbox.

What is a Sandbox?

Every application is provided with a dedicated test environment (sandbox). The sandbox comes with some test data and a dedicated sandbox user login to simulate an account holder. Our sandbox offers you the same functionality as the live API, so you can start developing your application without risk of losing money or unintentionally altering data.

Who can use the APIs?

Our APIs are open to anyone, companies, start-up companies or software developers.

Are the APIs secure?

Security is important to us. The Sandbox and the live environment are compliant with the latest security protocols. Using the OAuth2 security mechanism you can get safe and authorized access to your data. For more information on secure access, visit “API Docs” or Troubleshooting guides.

What will Hellenic Bank do with my data?

We commit to using your data in order to manage the activity on the API Banking Sandbox and to provide you with the services offered by the API. Feel free to check your Privacy and Terms and Conditions.

I don't know how APIs work. Is there any type of support on hand?

If you have no previous experience using APIs, we recommend you get assistance from an experienced software developer. If, however, you are brave enough there are a set of guides to assist you in the process. Have a look at our getting started guide, but also in the documentation of each API.

Do I have to be a client to take an API live?

The simple answer is no. As a third party company or a developer you are not required to be a customer to build software using our APIs. The end users of your applications are however required to be customers of the Bank.
