Get started in 3 simple steps

1. Discover

Nobody likes reading manuals, so we've made our documentation super-brief. Just read the basics to understand what the API is doing and how. Then click to try the API and check the format of responses.

2. Experiment

Register to introduce yourself to us and we’ll provide you with test data to use in the Sandbox. You can then play to your heart’s content to get your application working just as it should. If you run into problems, just explore our comprehensive troubleshooting API documents.

3. Go live

Once you’re happy, get in touch with us so that we can approve your app or platform. Once it’s approved, you’ll see your product out in the world, handling real information, making real payments and carrying out real account reporting. We can even cross-sell your product in our Marketplace.

What is API Banking?

It’s a platform of financial APIs offered by Hellenic Bank. Companies or developers interested in using the APIs can register and test them in a sandbox environment. The APIs' openness and modularity allow customers to experiment and innovate. The standards allow them to connect their systems very quickly. Openness to 3rd party solutions (e.g. FinTechs) enables platforms for partnerships and integrated value chains.

How can I join and use the APIs?

It’s simple. Just register with us and, once we’ve sent you a confirmation email, you’re approved to use the site.

Are there any charges for using the APIs?

It doesn't cost anything to access and use the APIs as much as you like. Once your app goes live, you’ll pay some charges for access to certain data.

What happens after I register?

Once your register, we’ll send you an email. You can then go to the Sandbox environment. We’ll give you virtual credentials so that you can test your app with our APIs. You’ll be able to access everything the platform offers, free, from account balances to payments. You can even see your calls to our APIs so that you can see exactly how things are working.

What is the availability and performance of the Open APIs?

Hellenic Bank publishes daily statistics on a quarterly basis on the availability and performance of the Open APIs that allows comparison with the Web Banking and Mobile Banking made available to our clients for directly accessing their payment accounts online. The latest report can be found at this link.

Where can I find more information on how to use the APIs?

Have a look at the description of each API under 'API Docs', and the 'Getting started' guide. If you run into trouble, there’s also the more technical troubleshooting guide.

What is a Sandbox?

It’s a dedicated test environment. It comes with some test data and a dedicated user login so that you can pretend to be an account holder and see what’s going on from their point of view. The Sandbox offers you the same functionality as the live API, so you can start developing your application without risk of losing money or unintentionally altering data.

Who can use the APIs?

Our APIs are open to anyone - companies, start-ups or software developers.

Are the APIs secure?

Security is important to us. The Sandbox and the live environment are compliant with the latest security protocols. Using the OAuth2 security mechanism you'll get safe and authorised access to your data. For more information on secure access, visit 'API Docs' or our Troubleshooting guides.

What will Hellenic Bank do with my data?

We'll only use your data to manage the activity on the API Banking Sandbox and to provide you with the services offered by the API. Feel free to check your Privacy and Terms and Conditions.

What APIs are there?

All APIs are listed under our “Products” section. We offer the following APIs:

  • Authorization
  • Single Payments
  • Single Payments in Rubles
  • Multiple Payments
  • Multiple Payments in Rubles
  • Account Reporting

We’re adding more APIs as time goes on, so keep checking back.

What can I do with the APIs?

The sky’s the limit. With our APIs you can built web apps, integrate them in your desktop applications and mobile apps. The APIs can be used to enhance ERP systems, build PFM (Personal Finance Manager) apps and banking apps. From digital banking and money management to account verification and payment processing services, APIs give your financial app more functionality. So that means greater value, a more innovative experience for users, and, ultimately, more user adoption and growth.

How many applications can I have?

There is no limit to the number of applications, apart from your imagination.

In what languages do you offer the code?

We provide code samples in Java, Python and Node.js

I don't know how APIs work. Where can I get some support?

If you have no previous experience using APIs, we recommend you get help from an experienced software developer. But if you’re brave enough to have a go yourself, there are a set of guides to assist you in the process. Have a look at our ‘Getting Started’ guide, but also in the documentation of each API.

Do I have to be a client to take an API live?

No. As a third party company or a developer you don’t need to be a customer to build software using our APIs. But because you’ll be using their data and we need to supply it, you’ll be offering your product only to customers of Hellenic Bank.
